West Texas is a region in Texas that has more in common geographically with the Southwestern United States than it does with the rest of the state.. This part of Texas is in the Northern Chihuahuan Desert and the high mountain areas have a climate of cold nights and warm afternoons in winter; hot days and cool nights in the summer. PopulationWest Texas has a much lower population density than the rest of the state. It was once mostly inhabited by nomadic Native American tribes such as the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa until after the Civil War. It does not have as many ties to other parts of the Southern United States as does East Texas, although many of the people who currently populate West Texas are also migrants from other parts of Texas and other Southern states or their descendants. There is a very large Hispanic population, especially near the Rio Grande. Many Mexicans fled Ojinaga and walked to Stonewall during the Mexican revolution in the early days of the 20th century. Many Mexican-Americans still have close family ties in Mexico. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "West Texas" What tires are best for my pickup truck when I move it from wintry states to the West Texas desert? Q. I have the factory-installed General Ameri-GS60 all-season tires on there now, but is there a better tire for handling the extreme heat and long stretches of dirt and gravel roads in rural West Texas? I won't have any freezing temperatures to deal with either, and there is only 18 inches of rainfall per year. Asked by barscheeze - Tue Jul 14 00:54:32 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. i would go with an AT tire, look for moderatly wide gaps in the tread pattern. The general grabber at is nice along with the bfg at, michelin is very nice the LTX m&s is nice but high dollar. 10ply 10ply 10ply, if the side of the tire dosent say it will take 80psi cold as far as air pressure its not a 10ply. they last longer cause the rubber is a harder grade, it withstands gravel roads much much better. and 8 ply tire will say like 60 psi on the side, there ok but wont last as long but much better than a 4 or 6 ply tire...the 4's and 6's will pit up and the tread will just get ate up in no time on gravel... there prone to gravel cuts in the tread, when your at about 40% tread life or less, most cuts are not repairable...
